Last Year

I was looking though my computer and found some stuff that I had completely forgotten about. Namely a sort of banner type thing I made for a band's Facebook page. They were a group of people I went to school with and had mutual friends with so I felt compelled to do something for them. They have renamed themselves and disbanded since then but it was cool working with them. Top was the final product.

I've also got a couple random things I've done the past year, so excuse the mess of stuff

Silly illustrations I made for my boyfriends dad. He said that if I wanted to take Jake (my boyfriend) to school, I had to draw him something based on a particular subject. If I recall correctly, I only had to do this twice; First subject was "muffin", the second was "tea."
Quick, crappy pic of the tea illustrations before I gave them up. Like. Horribly bad. But I really enjoy the actual illustrations, especially the tea-lure angler fish. Other ones like an overly propagandized tea product. Hm. redoing the angler with ink and water would be neat...

I also have a couple of my favorite pieces from last years portfolio. "Last years portfolio" you ask? It's quite an unfortunate story actually. My drawing professor asked to keep my portfolio over the summer break and of course I obliged. So I come back this year and find that, due to a misunderstanding, most of the portfolios kept over the summer were thrown out by a student helper. There was an effort to retrieve the lost works at the local dump, but there was not much success /: So I no longer have these works, nor will I ever get them back but through some great miracle.  Very saddening, but it motivates one to do more.

There's also last year's WASH Blog to look at. Please. I insist.

Dorm Decorations Ideas

Coming into a new dorm this year, I got a bit of inspiration to design some stuff for my room. First thing that I'm thinking about is sticking something on my window, approximately 5-feet in height, mostly because it is on the front face of the building. I want people to look up and see something that will make them react. How exactly, I don't care, as long as they acknowledge it. I thought about making a life-size person that appears to be sitting on the window sill, having a character's face smashed into the widow looking creepishly down on viewers, and just a character saying something silly. So far my favorite idea is the ladder.
Peeping Tom is what I ultimately came up with. Something ironically and weirdly perverse. A cartoon version of myself peeping-tom on gawd knows what. I'd want a speech bubble with clumsy text to be legible from the sidewalk (I live on the third floor). I have to wait until I get some money though before I can get it anywhere near what I want. Same goes for my other ideas. Ashamedly, I'll admit that I don't actually produce as many tangible representations of my ideas as I should. I really intend to do them one day. I just don't entertain the thought of developing them since I know I don't have the funds to make them. If I knew I could produce the final product then I would been decked out with all sorts of stuff by now. However, since I've started up this blog I have the motivation to show off my ideas even if I can't get the final product. Look forward to more designs/illustrations soon.

I'm also very interested in decorating my walls. Living in a dorm though limits the amount of things I can actually put up. So, because of this I decided that I want to make vinyl decals. Although on what subject/theme, I don't know. Probably characters or animals (like birds or my three fish), but haven't decided yet.

I also would like to make a t-shirt that say "I like you mullet." as well as a shirt with a street sign that says "Justin Bieber Gay" as a parody to the temporary street name change in Forney, Tx.

You know, I really am interested in this whole customization thing. Not only do I want to do it for myself, but others too. I really want to collaborate and bring to life others' ideas. In fact, I have been asked by a friend's relative to design a gate entrance based on a song he greatly admires.
He's told me that he's tried with other designers and they just can't seem to get what he's looking for. I'm working on putting something together for him now.

ClassWork: Portraits

Right now I'm in Life drawing II and we had a really neat homework assignment and class assignment this last week. Most times we work on drawing the figure as a whole, building volume and form, but this week we focused on the face.

Today I worked on the homework: a cutout style self-portrait. It took about 5 hours from set up to the final product. Kinda kickin myself that I didn't think to record the process, or at least take step-by-step pictures. I'm new to this whole "sharing my process" thing. Sucks too since I'm quite happy with how I went about it all the way through. I was just too eager to get to the final product to slow down and take pictures/video. Definitely will keep it in mind next time. Anyways, I'm happy with the way it came out and I'd really like to continue doing this sort of project on my own.

I do have a couple process shots that helped me look at it more..objectively? I suppose that's the word for it.

Ended up color coding because the charcoal I used for sketching didn't dark enough. It was too hard to tell black from mid-tone.

and just for giggles, the aftermath:

For last weeks' class we worked on drawing the model's face. I used charcoal and conte crayon on mi-teintes. Here is my process.

With a little tweaking, I know I'll get to making it look complete. Fix the balance and whatnot, I can spot a few places that need the work. I'll get to that when I've got extra time. For now though I think it came out well.

The Adventure Begins

It has come to my attention that I need to start getting myself out in the world if I want to be noticed anytime soon. Definitely a good idea so I can go on and pursue my aspiration of working in...well, anything remotely art related would be a good start. As of right now, I want to ultimately have a career in animation, although I still have a couple years to decide as well as explore other options. I intend to use this blog to post my ideas and my progress as an artist, as well as to network. I really love working with others, giving and getting feed, learning and growing. Although I like doing work as an individual, it's more satisfying to work for or with others since there is a challenge to have all parties like a final product.Anyways, let's get this party started. I've got ambition and ready to really work at what I love. Art.

Grey text will be general info. Blue will be school related work. Purple, personal work.
